A golfer’s guide to Under Armour clothing

Trusted by athletes and fitness enthusiasts around the world, Under Armour's commitment to innovation and performance has made it a leader in the sportswear industry. Known for its innovative approach to sportswear, and none more so than in golf, the brand boasts premium clothing and accessories, from polo shirts to trousers to shoes.

Here, we dive into the key features of Under Armour clothing, including its famous HeatGear technology, and answer your most pressing questions about the brand.

Why do golfers love Under Armour?

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a casual player on your local course, Under Armour clothing can give you the extra edge on the greens. So much so, professionals such as Jordan Spieth – who has partnered with the brand for more than 10 years now – are often seen taking on tournaments in Under Armour golf shoes, and polo shirts in his signature blue. If blue’s not your colour, fear not: there’s plenty more shades and styles to choose from. But that’s not the only reason the brand is a go-to for golfers around the world: another is its innovative fabric technology: HeatGear.

What is HeatGear by Under Armour?

While the name may be a little confusing, HeatGear is Under Armour’s fabric technology designed to keep you cool and dry in hot conditions. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, allowing air to circulate while wicking sweat away from your body and facilitating rapid moisture evaporation. This innovative technology makes fabric feel cool to the touch, so your favourite Under Armour pieces feels comfortable to wear during those longer, warmer days on the golf course.

Is Under Armour clothing true to size?

Typically, Under Armour clothing is true to size, but the fit can vary between different styles – which also fit close to the body for athletic performance. For maximum movement and comfort on the course, those gearing up for a round of golf need to be sure their clothing fits perfectly. So, we’d recommend checking the specific sizing chart for each garment, shoe, or accessory. For a more tailored fit, head into one of our stores to feel how Under Armour clothing fits in person.

What materials are Under Armour shirts made of?

Another question we are asked frequently: what are Under Armour shirts made from, exactly? Well, typically these are a blend of synthetic materials, most commonly polyester and elastane. Polyester gives the shirts the HeatGear moisture-wicking properties, making them quick to dry when playing, while elastane adds stretch, ensuring a fit that allows the shirt to move with your golf swing. You may also find mesh panels and other breathable fabrics to enhance ventilation incorporated into your Under Armour shirt.

How to adjust an Under Armour golf belt

Under Armour golf belts are available in one length which fits most golfers. However, they can be adjusted further to suit your own individual waist size:

  1. Begin by putting your Under Armour belt on as you normally would – there will generally be some extra length when the clasp has been tightened.
  2. Once you’re happy with how much of the belt you want to tuck into your trouser belt loops, remove the buckle from the belt and measure how much you want to remove.
  3. Using sharp scissors, make a cut to remove the excess belt.
  4. To reattach and secure the belt in place, open the buckle by lifting its front part and slide the belt through the buckle. Tighten or loosen it to your desired fit.
  5. Once you’ve adjusted the belt to your preferred size, push the buckle back down to lock the belt in place.

Do Under Armour make golf clubs?

At this time, Under Armour does not manufacture golf clubs and has not expressed plans to do so in the near future. As a brand, Under Armour specialises in athletic apparel, footwear, and accessories across many sports. It currently sponsors many professional golfers, so you might see the Under Armour logo on various golf-related products, just not golf clubs.

Under Armour’s focus remains on providing high-performance apparel and footwear to improve comfort and performance on the golf course: this is where the brand excels. There are big hitters in the golf club market – from TaylorMade and Titleist to Srixon and Callaway – that are go-tos for a reason. Nike Golf, for example, tried to venture into golf clubs for several years, but pulled as competition from top hardware brands proved too difficult to conquer.
