Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just picking up the clubs, the right footwear gives you the grip, support, and confidence to play your best. And with more than a century of experience delivering exceptional comfort, performance, and style to the green, it doesn’t get better than FootJoy.

In this guide, we’ll explore what makes this iconic brand so special and answer your top questions to help you find the perfect fit.

What is FootJoy?

Revered by players across the globe for its premium selection of shoes, gloves, and clothing, FootJoy is the longest running golf brand in the world. The brand’s legacy dates back to 1857, when Frederick Packard left his father’s boot workshop in Massachusetts to start making golf footwear of his own. Since then, FootJoy has been helping players at every level feel comfortable and confident while lowering their scores on the course.

Who owns FootJoy?

FootJoy is part of the Acushnet Holdings Company – the umbrella that boasts fellow heavy hitters such as Titleist and Scotty Cameron. Since it was acquired in 1985 from General Mills, FootJoy has been a key part of Acushnet’s portfolio, delivering high-performance golf gear trusted by some of the world’s best athletes, from Justin Thomas to Patrick Cantlay.

Are FootJoy golf shoes good?

For over 75 years, the brand has been the #1 shoe at every tournament on the PGA Tour. And for good reason – it consistently delivers high-quality footwear that meets the demands of the game. Here’s what makes FootJoy golf shoes so legendary:

  • Unrivalled comfort. FootJoy golf shoes offer a range of sizes and widths, guaranteeing a precise fit that accommodates all foot types and keeps you comfortable on the course. With advanced features like its StratoFoam cushioning and FTF+ (fine-tuned foam) technology, each pair provides a soft yet supportive feel for those longer rounds.
  • Superior durability. Boasting advanced waterproof materials such as Premium ChromoSkin™ leather and easy-care synthetic uppers, FootJoy footwear is specifically treated to enhance durability and water resistance. So, whether you’re striding confidently down a fast fairway or tackling a tricky bunker shot, your shoes will keep up with every step.
  • Tour-proven technology. FootJoy’s shoes are engineered with tour-proven technology to meet the demands of the world’s best golfers. Designed for performance, these shoes offer the perfect balance of comfort, stability, and support, ensuring they hold up under pressure and on the toughest courses.
  • Performance-driven design. Featuring solid ankle support, improved grip, and superior waterproofing, every FootJoy golf shoe is built to withstand the elements and keep you steady through every swing. Models like the Pro/SLX take it a step further with the PWR TRAX System, which dynamically redistributes energy for maximum stability and grip.

Where are FootJoy golf shoes made?

While some of FootJoy’s most premium models, like the handcrafted Premiere Series, are assembled in the US, others are produced at a joint venture factory in China. With a global supplier network, individual components are sourced from countries such as the UK, Ethiopia, and Asia-Pacific, among others, and overseen by parent company Acushnet.

Are FootJoy golf shoes waterproof?

Many of FootJoy’s shoes feature industry-leading waterproof technology, making them a top choice for golfers who play in all conditions. Models like the Pro/SL and Premiere Series use advanced Pittards leather and specialised membrane linings to keep water out while maintaining breathability. And, because FootJoy is so confident in its advanced waterproofing, many models come with a one- or two-year waterproof warranty.

Beyond shoes, FootJoy also offers a versatile range of waterproof golf apparel, including jackets and trousers, to keep you dry from head to toe.

Who wears FootJoy on PGA Tours?

On the PGA Tour, FootJoy remains the most-worn shoe, with stars like Justin Thomas and Max Homa relying on the Premiere Series for its blend of heritage style and cutting-edge technology, while Adam Scott opts for the Pro SL for unmatched stability and all-weather grip. Players like Webb Simpson and Will Zalatoris also lace up FootJoy, reinforcing its status as the go-to brand for elite performance.

On the global stage, FootJoy also dominated the 2022/2023 season on the DP World Tour and Ladies European Tour, racking up five major wins, more than 20 victories in the Premiere Series, and over 40 wins on European tours. Tackling rain-soaked links and sunbaked layouts, two differing FootJoy models supported players in their special victories: Premiere Series and Tour Alpha. Brian Harman sported the latter in the 151st Open Champion, trusting the proven performance of the Tour Alpha to bring home his first major title in a six-stroke victory.

How do FootJoy golf shoes fit?

When it comes to fit, do FootJoy shoes run big or small? Actually, most golfers find FootJoy shoes run true to size. So, if you’re normally a size 10, chances are that’s what you’ll need here as well. However, some styles may feel a bit snug or roomy depending on their design. It’s always a good idea to try them on or book a custom fitting to find your perfect match.

How to measure feet, the FootJoy way

When it comes to fit, do FootJoy shoes run big or small? Actually, most golfers find FootJoy shoes run true to size. So, if you’re normally a size 10, chances are that’s what you’ll need here as well. However, some styles may feel a bit snug or roomy depending on their design. It’s always a good idea to try them on or book a custom fitting to find your perfect match.

  • Foot length and width. A trusty Brannock device can measure your heel-to-ball and heel-to-toe distance, as well as the width of your foot (which is often overlooked). FootJoy offers a wide range of widths, so make sure the top eyelets are roughly a thumb’s width apart to ensure the perfect fit.
  • Arch shape. While a Brannock device provides the length of your arch, it doesn’t reveal anything about its shape (low, normal, or high). To measure this, do the ‘wet test’: wet your bare feet and step on heavy paper. If a full footprint shows, this indicates a low arch, while a narrow band between the heel and toe indicates a high arch. A normal arch sits somewhere in between.

How to prepare for a golf shoe fitting

Before your fitting, think about what makes you comfortable in a golf shoe. Do you prefer a full rounded toe, or a fashion fit? What about the feel around your shoe opening? Do you like it to feel snug, with a V-throat fit, or airy, with a blucher opening? In addition to a foam midsole for lightweight comfort, many FootJoy shoes also offer extra ankle padding.

It’s a good idea to book your fitting later on in the afternoon, when your feet have naturally swelled. And don’t forget to wear the socks you plan to play in for a realistic fit.
